Just like that, the New York Giants have two weeks of training camp in the books. Here’s a look at seven young players whose stock is trending upward after those two weeks of practice.Darren Evans | CornerbackEvans has seen his snaps with the third-string defense, but hes certainly made the most of his opportunities. Last week in practice, he had two pa s breakups, including one that might have otherwise been a touchdown. In the scrimmage, he was instrumental in breaking up a pa s in the end zone that safety Yusuf Corker recovered.Adoree Jackson, Aaron Robinson, Darnay Holmes, and CorDale Flott should all be locks for the roster at cornerback, meaning at most, there is one opening. If Evans continues to make plays, he might be in the thick of that decision. Darrian Beavers | Inside LinebackerAlthough the Giants arent expected to be in their base defense much, it certainly looks like the teams sixth-round draft pick is ascending toward Martin Maldonado Jersey a potential starting role. Beavers has been called upon to replace Blake Martinez with the first team defense whenever Martinez, who is still recovering from a torn ACL, has his workload cut back. Beavers has been solid against the run and has shown flashes of being a more than adequate blitzer. To s in his special teams capabilities and barring injury, its hard to imagine that Beavers wont have a place on the 53-man roster.Kayvon Thibodeaux | Outside LinebackerYes, this is one of those Captain Obvious picks, as, after all, Thibodeaux is the Shohei Ohtani Jersey fifth overall pick in the draft and came in with such high expectations. But that said, the rookie has been simply a pa s-rushing terror ever since camp started. He was the undisputed star in last weeks scrimmage, spending so much time in the Giants backfield that, at one point, he started to see more attention. The scary thing is Thibodeaux has been settling into a groove with beating offensive linemen with that combination of power and speed. So imagine how good hell become as he continues refining his pa s rush plan and technique.Jashaun Corbin | Running BackSaquon Barkley and Matt Breida project as RB1 and RB2, respectively, but the rookie out of Florida State is sure to make a strong push to unseat incumbent Gary Brightwell for the RB3 spot. Corbin, who ran with the third-team offense in the scrimmage and was part of the group engaged in live contact, has run hard all camp long. Scroll to ContinueHes shown good vision and decision-making and very few wasted steps. He also hits the hole quickly and can often be in the second level before defenders have a chance to react. Corbin will still need to establish himself on special teams to nail down a roster spot, but considering that he’s seen quite a few more reps on offense thus far than Brightwell, its clear that he currently has a slight advantage in that competition.Joshua Ezeudu | Offensive LinemanThe Giants havent had much luck with their offensive linemenMatt Gonos career is reportedly up in the air due to a neck i sue, while rookie Marcus McKethan suffered a season-ending torn ACL Friday night. But the Giants other rookie offensive lineman, Joshua Ezeudu, has been quietly impre sing with his work at left guard and both tackle spots.Theres an old saying that the more a guy shows he can do, the better his chances of hanging around. Ezeudu, who may be called upon to take some right guard snaps given the season-ending injury to Marcus McKethan, is far from being a finished product. Still, theres no question that the Giants third-round draft pick is turning Huston Street Jersey into an a set on a unit that historically has struggled to find quality players.Collin Johnson | Wide ReceiverWhen Collin Johnson was picked up off waivers from the Jaguars last year, the Giants were undoubtedly intrigued by the receivers speed and sizehe stands 6-foot-6 and weighs in at 222 pounds.Johnson appeared in 12 games with one start for the Giants and caught 11 of 21 pa s targets for 105 yards, six of his receptions going for first downs in his first season. But a very underrated part of Johnsons game which is just as important, is hes a physical receiver who has been solid as a downfield blocker. That should come as no surprise considering Johnson has been a steady contributor on special teams. The Giants receiver depth chart is far from being set, but figure the top spots will go to Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and WanDale Robinson. Sterling Shepard will likely start the season on the PUP list. That should leave about three openings for other receivers, one of which might go to C.J. Board, who was a core special teamer. Johnson, meanwhile, has a good chance of grabbing a spot if he continues performing as he has this summer.Richie James | Wide ReceiverAnother receiver who has a chance to grab a roster spot is former 49er Richie James. James is a smaller receiver, but hes taken advantage of the balls thrown his way by hauling in the pa ses, including a nubmer thrown off-target.James worked as the slot receiver in the spring while Kadarius Toney was recovering from an off-season knee procedure. And James, who has seen snaps with the first- and second-string offenses has continued impre sing with his quickne s and sure hands.Add in his value on special teamshe is a return specialistand if he continues turning his opportunities into production, it would be hard to see him not earning one of J. C. Ramirez Jersey the projected three remaining receiver openings.
The November slate of college football games continues with another big weekend of conference- and College Football Playoff-defining games. This week, that includes headlining matchups between No. 10 Oklahoma at No. 12 Baylor Josh Donaldson Jersey and No. 5 Georgia at No. 13 Auburn, but those are far from the only big games to enjoy.WEEK 12 OUTLOOK: | Other ranked AP Top 25 matchups include No. 24 Indiana at No. 9 Penn State, No. 21 Navy at No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 7 Minnesota at No. 23 Minnesota. Had Wake Forest avoided the upset of Virginia Tech last week, it’s game against No. 3 Clemson would have made for an incredible sixth game between AP Top 25 opponents. We at Sporting News are 67-15 through 11 weeks of the college football season after a . With that, SN’s picks for the Week 12 slate of games (lines provided courtesy of as of Monday, Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. ET):Arizona at No. 6 Oregon (-27)The Ducks are sitting pretty at No. 6 in the latest AP Top 25, and its likely theyll be even higher in the next set of Playoff rankings after the lo ses to Alabama and Penn State. But thats a double-edged sword: Oregon mustnt falter under the pre sure that comes with controlling ones Playoff destiny. That shouldnt be an i sue this week against a 4-5 Arizona team that surrenders 481 yards per game (good for 124th, nationally). Justin Herbert and Co. should feast on the Wildcats porous defense, but Arizona can move the ball up and down the field too. Oregon will give up some big plays, but a suming the Ducks avoid a complete meltdown, they should win by a comfortable margin.Pick: Oregon 45, Arizona 27No. 24 Indiana at No. 9 Penn State (-14)Were it not for Minnesota, Indiana might be the surprise of the year out of the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have already matched their best record since 2007, and still have three games left to play. That said, the lo s of quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will make it a lot harder for the Hoosiers to remain competitive vs. Penn State, even with Peyton Ramsey, who started all of last season for Indiana. Look for Penn States Shaka Toney and Yetur Gro s-Matos to lead Austin Riley Jersey a furious defensive effort after the Nittany Lions gave up a season-high 31 points against Minnesota. Penn State will look to make a statement against Indiana in this one.Pick: Penn State 35, Indiana 17Michigan State at No. 14 Michigan (-13.5)This game doesnt have quite the shine as some of the other rivalry games to be played this season, but that wont matter once the Spartans and Wolverines kick things off in The Big House. Michigan has rebounded nicely from its lo s to Penn State, downing Notre Dame and Maryland by a combined score of 83-21. Michigan State, meanwhile, is reeling after losing four straight Big Ten contests, giving up at least 28 points in each lo s. That suggests theyll struggle again against Shea Patterson and Co., but never discount little brother. Expect the Spartans to hang tough for a while in a pride game.Pick: Michigan 27, Michigan State 17No. 21 Navy at No. 16 Notre Dame (-9.5)Who saw this as a ranked matchup ahead of the season? The Midshipmen run the nations top-rated rushing offense (357 ypg) by way of its vaunted triple-option attack. How will that fare against a Notre Dame defense that gives up an average of 160 rushing yards per game while allowing nine touchdowns and forcing 17 fumbles? If Navy quarterback Malcolm Perry can play keep-away well enough, you could see a low-scoring game that comes down to the wire. Ian Book will have to make the most of the Irishs scoring opportunities.Pick: Notre Dame 24, Navy 20PLAYOFF-DEFINING LOSSES: | Wake Forest at No. 3 Clemson (-33)The Demon Deacons were one win away from making this a ranked matchup with Clemson, but a thorough 36-17 beatdown from Virginia Tech knocked them from the AP Top 25. Theres nothing the Hokies do that Clemson cant do better, but its worth knowing Tech won on the strength of its run game and shut out Wake Forest in the fourth quarter. Look for Clemson running back Travis Etienne (1,214 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns) and the defense (251 yards, 11.5 points allowed per game) to lead a similarly dominant performance.Pick: Clemson 52, Wake Forest 14No. 7 Minnesota at No. 23 Iowa (-3)Minnesota remains alive in the Playoff race another week, and now comes the Danny Santana Jersey second of that all-important four-game stretch to end the season. If the Golden Gophers can beat Iowa in Kinnick Stadium, it needs only to beat one-win Northwestern to clinch the Big Ten West. P.J. Fleck has to keep his team from peering ahead, though: The Hawkeyes are one of college footballs best defensive teams, allowing an average of 289 yards and 11.7 points per game. Both teams are coming off hard games (Iowa against Wisconsin), so it could be sloppy in the beginning. But Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan (2,100 pa sing yards, 21 touchdowns, four interceptions) should pick things up in the second half en route to a big win.Pick: Minnesota 27, Iowa 23No. 10 Oklahoma (-10) at No. 12 BaylorThis game has ma sive implications for the Big 12 and Playoff. A lo s for either team knocks them from Playoff contention, but not out of the Big 12 running. Baylor played a tough game in a 29-23 win over TCU on Saturday, but faces an entirely different beast in Oklahomas offense, which ranks first and second in the country, respectively, in yards per game (587) and points per game (48.4). That said, the Sooners must play a better game after earning a narrow 42-41 win over Iowa State, which came after Oklahoma built a 21-point halftime lead. Thats especially true for Jalen Hurts, who couldnt get anything going in the second half of that game. Oklahoma rebounds to knock Baylor out of the Playoff running.Pick: Oklahoma 40, Baylor 30No. 5 Georgia (-3) at Jonny Venters Jersey No. 13 AuburnAuburn ran Georgia out of Jordan-Hare Stadium the last time the Bulldogs visited, scoring a ma sive 40-17 win over the No. 2 team in the country. The Tigers defense will do its part to replicate that score, attempting to limit what has been a conservative offensive attack from Georgia. The battle between Georgias deep running back corps and Auburns defensive front will be fantastic, and will go a long way in deciding who ultimately wins the way. The kicker, though, will be the quarterback play. Bo Nix has been subject to some freshman mistakes, while Georgias Jake Fromm has been a little more consistent. That will be the difference in this rivalry game; the Bulldogs should escape Jordan-Hare with a narrow win.Pick: Georgia 24, Auburn 21
